Most cosmetics today contain the poisonous metal lead. Ask the FDA to ban this substance from our make-up!
Lead is a poisonous metal that can cause serious negative reactions in the human body. It's been proven to severely damage brain function, the nervous system, and the kidneys. Would you apply a substance with those implications to your face or body? It's safe to say no one would do such a thing, yet an overwhelmingly large amount of cosmetics in today's make-up market contain lead.
The development of all-natural, eco-friendly cosmetics only makes the argument for lead-based make-up more invalid. With so many lead alternatives, why is the FDA still allowing this dangerous substance to be marketed and sold to an unsuspecting public?
There is simply no reason we should be applying poison to our bodies. Sign the petition asking Commissioner of Food and Drugs Margaret Hamburg to ban the use of lead in all cosmetics.
The Petition:
Dear Commissioner Hamburg,
I am concerned about the presence of lead in the cosmetics that are being marketed and sold to the American public today. Lead can be found in almost every type of make-up, from mascara, to lipstick, to nail polish.
It's scientifically proven that lead has the power to cause serious health problems. For example, lead poisoning can damage the nervous system, impair brain function, poison the blood, cause kidney failure, and even more. Why, then, is this harmful metal still allowed for use in products we apply to our bodies every day? This seems completely irresponsible and totally antithetical to good public health.
I am writing to ask that you ban the use of lead in cosmetics, and for that matter all products that are to be used for human consumption. It's time to start acting on behalf of our health, even if it means putting in a little more time and research to come up with viable alternatives.
Thank you.
